For only a short period in my life have I lived more than 60 miles from the coast, often much closer. Home for me now is on Boston’s South Shore, a region that extends south and east from Boston, along the shore of Massachusetts Bay towards Cape Cod. While this region extends from Quincy to Plymouth, my true playground is the towns of Cohassett, Scituate, Marshfield and Duxbury. It is here that I spend most of my free time, swimming in the ocean, collecting rocks and looking for rare beach glass.
I am drawn to intimate landscapes and abstract images that are informed by the work of many of the giants of landscape photography, although the work of Eliot Porter resonates most deeply with me. Unlike Eliot Porter however, I use a small format camera and where Porter would have exposed few frames I expose many. Making many images of a single subject to achieve a final successful image allows me to connect with my subject. I see it as very much akin to having a conversation and I am happy to go where that conversation leads me. I hope you will join me to find out.
Hi Andy, thank you for the nice words about my work. Cheers, Steve.

Thanks for liking my post about window seats and the potentially beautiful views from them, Andy! What locations, natural or human-made, have you seen from an airplane that stands out in your mind? Also, aisle, window (or middle…)?
Aisle for the usual reasons.
Have you seen Julieanne Kost’s book? http://www.amazon.com/Window-Seat-Photography-Creative-Thinking/dp/0596100833/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1367033312&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=jullieanne+kost

Thanks for visiting my poetry blog Andy, and i so enjoy your blog and photos, such as your home page photo, a feeling of softness the ocean can bring, the calm empty nets, wondering, what they had once taken, and the hands that set them.

Hi, I wanted to thank you for liking my post, America’s Best Fall Color Drives. I’m guessing the leaves changing color are a lovely sight in Boston & thereabouts.
Thanks for visiting. As for the minimalist idea, it will take time as with anything life changing , and for me it has been added into my hiking. Nice photos..
Thank you for liking our post “The Pot and the Flowers”. You were also our very first ‘liker’ for our post “As the deer” on our brand new blog, which in turn led us to your blog. It may not seem like much but it was a great encouragement to us. Thank you once again. God bless you and your blog.
Thank you very much for liking my post. I have been spending hours and hours throughout the last 12 months at Palm Beach walking along the mudflats watching soldier crabs scuttle across the mudflats and disappear into their holes, ripples in the sand. It has been amazing having the chance to photograph and experience the minutae of beach life. You would love it here.
I have just finished a novel set in Boston.
Best wishes,
Rowena

Hello Mr. Nixon,
Thank you for being my first “like” on my painting Journey! My site is my first attempt on getting a web presence. I hope to add more depth as I go along. I don’t have internet at home, so it’s difficult to get the time to go online. Your site is beautiful! May your journey continue as beautifully…. Karin
Thank you for taking the time to comment here.
‘m starting to realize that slow and steady wins the race. Start slowly, one post a week, two posts a week, share interesting things and keep it up.
Good luck!
Best wishes,
Andy
